You May Dream 1-3

Thursday morning, I felt something making a noise like two days ago, but I wasn’t playing soccer this time. When I recognized the sound, I jumped out of bed.
       “Damn,” I muttered.
I went to the entrance straight away and opened the door.
“I’ve called you six times,” Jess said as he stood at the door.
         “I’m sorry, I overslept,” I said.
“Follow me.” Jess looked angry and started to leave.
“Hey! Wait up, Jess!” I shouted, not seriously, because I didn’t think he was really angry, but he didn’t look back. I took a few steps out of my room, but I noticed I was wearing only underwear. I put on jeans and followed him. My room was on the fourth floor, but the building had no elevator. I got out of breath and found him in the parking lot in front of my apartment.

You May Dream 1-2

The sun worked hard and warmed the whole country on the first morning in June. It was almost ten o’clock but I still played soccer in my dream. I knew something sounded around me, but it took more than ten seconds before I noticed my cell phone ringing near my head. The display showed “Jess,” and I pushed the button.
“Hey, Keith? It’s me, Jess,” a voice on my cell phone said.
“Hey.” I murmured.
“You’re sleeping?”
“Yeah, you woke me up.” My eyes were still closed.
“Sorry, but it’s almost ten. Let’s go to EP for brunch,” his voice said he also got up late the morning.
“Sounds good.”
“OK. I’ll come over in 30 minutes, alright?”
“Right,” I answered and put down the phone.
Jess and I went to the same high school, and we’re still good friends. Sometimes, we hung out together for a whole weekend. He was also a college student, but he went to another college in the city. His apartment was three miles away from my apartment and he always came by car, so I knew I should prepare soon.
I ordered a couple of coffee and bagel sets which were described “For Your Vague Brunch” on a menu in EP, the café we often went to. EP was opened one year ago and the tables and chairs were pretty new, but when I entered EP, I felt like it was older than me because of the dim lights. An old man who always sat at the corner of the counter and read a newspaper also added to the café’s mood. I could feel like I was in a safe house, and it was one of the reasons I often came here. The other reason was there was a record shop near the café. Jess and I started talking about our long vacation before our meals came.
“Can you believe it?” Jess said, “We have a two-year vacation.”
“No. I think I’ll forget everything I learned in college,” I said as I rubbed my eyes.
“That’s true,” he yawned.
Obviously, we had a two-year vacation. All college students in this country take at least six years to graduate. Usually, students go to college for two years, rest the next two years, and then go back and finish college for two years. Everybody regarded this vacation as very important in their life and called the vacation Brand Vacation.
I asked Jess, “What is your Brand plan?”
“I wanna be free this month, at first,” he said.
“Work, men,” we giggled.
His real plan was very simple. Half and half. He was going to work hard in his first year, and enjoy himself fully in his second year. I thought it was too simple, but I agreed with the point that we should find a job soon for our great vacation. Our meals were served and we started to eat.
Jess said, “Seriously, I don’t want to start working at least this week.”
“That’s true,” I said. I picked up a plain bagel with no cheese and chewed.
“You know, we have two years. Let’s take it easy,” Jess begun to eat his bacon and egg. Then I nodded and drank some coffee. After I swallowed the bagel, I decided I wouldn’t work in the first week.
“What day is it today?” I asked.
“Tuesday,” he said with his mouth full.
“I’ve hit on an awesome idea,” I smiled, “Are you free tonight?”
“No, I have a date with Jasmine,” he said, still chewing.
“How about Thursday?” I asked.
“I’m free,” Jess said and finally swallowed.
“The whole day?” I asked, and he nodded.
“Perfect. I’ll explain my awesome idea.” I was excited.
